Amelia’s class Week 5 Term 1
Hello everyone,
This week marks halfway through the term, and wow how the time has flied! I hope if any of you have loved ones in Queensland, they are keeping safe.
This week, we finished our work looking at maps and direction. The children created their own grid maps last week based on any real or fantastical location of their choice. They had to mark some key features on the map and label the axes with letters and numbers for coordinate positions. On Wednesday, the children paired up and directed their partner from one location to another, by using a coordinate location as a starting point. The children also suggested pairing up between the elders and juniors, which was so lovely to see. The elders in the class have started to take a lot of initiative with supporting the juniors and a few new friendships have started to bloom.
In our ‘Rad Reptiles’ lesson this week, we explored a key feature of reptiles being that most lay eggs. We looked at how reptile eggs differ, such as their sizes, shapes and colours. But most interestingly, we looked at the texture of reptile eggs compared to bird’s eggs. In order to replicate this difference in texture, we have placed some chicken eggs in vinegar to be inspected on Tuesday next week. We should find that with the vinegar, the egg shells have disintegrated and the membrane has become a bouncy and rubbery-like outer casing, similar to a reptile egg!
Also, a reminder that it is our turn to go to the Lane Cove library on Monday next week, so please pack all library books for returns.
Also a huge thank you to all of the parent helpers who assisted Meg and I with moving our furniture out to get the floorboards fixed over the weekend. It would have been far more work if we didn’t have your fabulous support!
