Faith’s Class: Term 3 Week 4
Hi families,
Another busy week in the Chatterbox classroom!
We had a lovely visit to Lane Cove Library with the Axolotl class. It was the perfect afternoon to get cosy with a good book while the wind howled outside. We have noticed a growing interest in non-fiction books, particularly in the Science section. The Chatterboxes have been borrowing books full of experiments, which is perfect timing with our Science Morning coming up next Tuesday for Science Week!
In Maths, we have started exploring addition and subtraction. We began by revising our counting-on and counting-back strategies through the game ‘Dump It’. On Thursday afternoon, we also enjoyed a range of maths games designed to strengthen our ‘friends
of ten’ knowledge.
Our Currents of Care learning this week focused on water sources. We explored rivers, lakes, oceans, groundwater and reservoirs, and discussed the difference between fresh and salt water. We also talked about the impact of drought on Australia’s water supplies. We had lots of fun testing whether different objects would sink or float, while also considering whether they would be safe in our waterways. This led to some thoughtful conversations about how people impact our waterways and the consequences of pollution and other human activities.
In PDHPE, we continued developing our communication and friendship skills by exploring the idea of “Fighting Fair”, a concept developed by the Conflict Resolution Network. We discussed how disagreements are a normal part of friendships and how we can work through them using clear communication, active listening and by focusing on the problem rather than the person. The Chatterboxes created their own puppets, which we will use throughout the term for role-play activities.
On Friday, the Chatterboxes had their turn chairing the School Meeting. Kai and Reuben did an awesome job as our chairpeople, keeping everything running smoothly. Well done!
Looking ahead to next week we have quite a few things on. Next Tuesday is our Science Morning, where the children will take part in experiments in mixed-age groups across the school.
From Wednesday to Friday, we will also be celebrating Art Week. Crafty has organised lots of exciting activities run by different artists, including charcoal animation, plasticine animation, zine and comic creation, and filmmaking. Wednesday I will be on PD, but the lovely (and very artistic) Sarah D will be kicking off Art Week with the Chatterboxes.
A quick reminder that Parent-Teacher meetings begin next week. Meetings will take place in our classroom before and after school over the coming weeks.
Have a wonderful weekend!
From,
Faith x
