Preschool News: Week 6 Term 3

Hello everyone,

Preschool has been full of energy and excitement this week as children embraced a wide range of experiences both within the classroom and out in the community. The days have been filled with cubby building, performances, games, construction, and plenty of opportunities for creative expression.

We continued our astronomy learning with a hands-on investigation into the making and breaking of rocks. Hammering and exploring sparked lots of curiosity about molecular dust and rock planets.

Music has been a real highlight this week. We sang favourites like The Rattlin’ Bog and The Rainbow Snake with lots of energy, and children also had the chance to strum the ukuleles during music with Kym on Monday, which brought plenty of smiles and a sense of achievement. Adding to the fun were music performances of Golden from K-Pop Demon Hunters, an absolute hit that had everyone engaged and entertained.

Our routine excursions and visitors also gave us plenty to talk about. On Monday we headed off to Kimberley Playground, where climbing, running, and exploring strengthened gross motor skills and sparked imaginative play. On Tuesday, Lane Cove Fire and Rescue came to share important fire safety strategies. The children impressed the firefighters with what they already knew, listened carefully to new information, and loved the chance to use the fire truck’s hose at the end. On Wednesday, our regular trip to Lane Cove Library gave us time to enjoy stories together, and plenty of new books to bring back to preschool and share with each other.

Back at preschool, we began reading Horton Hears a Who with Abi, which led to thoughtful conversations about perspective and scale. Children wondered what it might be like to live on a speck of dust, just like the Whos, and reflected on how vast and interconnected our world can be.

A friendly reminder as we head into spring: please pack a hat, so children have sun protection while playing outside. We’ve also had quite a few shoe malfunctions on our recent walking excursions. We’ll be checking that shoes are on securely before we set off, and families can help by making sure children are wearing well-fitted footwear.

We’re looking forward to another action-packed week in preschool.

Warmly,

Katrina, Lisa, Abi and Michael
