Wendy’s Group Week 7 Term 1

Hi everyone.

This week we had the Autumn equinox on Thursday and so now we are officially into autumn with days becoming shorter and hopefully no more super hot, humid days. Thank goodness!

We’ve had a great week in our group. We’ve reflected on the camp experience last week and constructed a chart of positive, negative and interesting aspects, written thank you letters (drafts and final copies) and we’ve also reflected on what resilience means and how camp can help strengthen this internal resource. In Maths, we’ve moved on to addition and subtraction, revising strategies and algorithms and solving word problems with decimals.

Our Water project with Jess’s group has moved further into the design phase with models of water purifiers, fountains and transport mechanisms ready to be created and materials gathered. Construction of these will start next week. Please send in paper cups, cardboard tubes, straws, paddle pop sticks and plastic drink bottles or containers to help with this.

Summerhill Day on Wednesday was a gorgeous day. It was so much fun to see the children interacting in different ways in mixed groups and enjoying themselves so much. I was particularly impressed with my rice paper roll group! Most of the children had done it before and everyone seemed to know exactly what to do! We were finished the prep in no time and had plenty of time to make the rolls and eat. I love seeing the kids so enthusiastic about food that is so healthy for them!

On Thursday, we had a surprise visitor to our room for a while… see photo… and on Friday, lots of funny socks for Trisome21/Down Syndrome Day and visits from Tt and Evie who are both settling into their high schools really well.

And finally, thank you again to everyone who helped us get to and from camp. Your time and assistance are very much appreciated! Also thank you to our group families for providing afternoon tea treats! We are very lucky.

Have a great week.

With love,
Wendy
