Wendy’s Group Week 3 Term 3
Another great week in our group!
Highlights include:
* a visit to Lane Cove Council and Synergy on Tuesday for sessions from Relationships Australia and council recycling experts as well as the youth workers at Synergy
* a visit from Cecelia, ex-Currambena teacher and previous president of ADEC, to deliver an angklung! This is an Indonesian musical instrument that we heard and played at the APDEC conference in Jakarta. I asked about purchasing one for Currambena and the conference organisers boxed up the one we played at the conference and sent it to me with Cecelia! We managed to play Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star already!
* some spontaneous dancing after Class Meeting to Just Dance videos in preparation for the Ball next week
* finding out that we have more money than expected in our fundraising account so we can afford to send some extra to charities we support
* Emme, Hazel and Louie offering to put their stories into the next TVO edition.
* booking our Jervis Bay camp, with Faith’s help, on Monday Camp dates: Monday 1st December to Friday 5th December
* watching the decorations being created for the Class Ball next week.
Lots of fun, as you can see!
Our group’s parent interviews will start on Monday. Access to the interview timetable document still seems to be an issue, so please email if you haven’t already chosen a time. I’m looking forward to speaking with you all about your child’s progress some time over the next two weeks. Piano and guitar lessons will only be on if no interview is booked for that time. Children will need to check (the timetable will be on my door) the day before their usual lesson.
In other news, we have completed our Data topic in Maths and are moving on to Chance next with 2D shapes after that. Times tables as usual. In English, we are looking in depth at the book “Plague”, this week, considering the relationship between the text and the illustrations and the effect of this on the reader. Reading, spelling and handwriting are continuing as usual.
After our visit to Synergy, the Youth Worker, Tasha, sent me a page about Mental Health Support Services and I’ve copied this for each of the children. We’ve also talked this week about positive coping strategies to help manage difficult emotions. It would be great to chat with them about this at home to follow up.
It would also be good to check for nits if you see any scratching going on! We’ve had a case treated this week!
Have a good one.
With love,
Wendy
