Sarah’s Class Week 5 Term 3

Helloo Everybody!

Hope you’ve had a nice weekend. We’ve had a super creative and jam packed book week full of a lot of story telling from…. BOOKS!!!! Every morning children gathered in each teacher’s classroom to listen to them read their chosen book. It was a lovely way for us to start our days, with a picture book.

In our class this week we welcomed, Bella, a student teacher from Macquarie Uni. She is on her final practicum with our class for the remainder of the term.  Additionally, we looked at old vs new technology and sorted different things into Then and Now. We watched a few episodes from an ABC documentary series called “Back in Time” which showcased a family travelling back in time through decades to live the way people lived, using the technology of that era.

Kim had the children drumming using real sticks and drums for music. Unfortunately, the weather has been so miserable and wet that we stayed at school for our PE and did classroom yoga! We had a fabulous session with Siobhan (Otto and Dash’s) mum on comic book making. And, Bella did some terrific lessons on Nouns and Adjectives and Volume and Capacity. She created work stations for small groups to estimate and measure things to see how many would fit into different containers. We looked at the formal measurements to measure liquid millilitres and litres and the children tested how much liquid containers would hold.

For our Rock and Water this week we worked on our balance and focus to stand on 1 leg in a ‘Rooster pose’. We talked about feeling grounded. We also played a game of (indoor) tag where those being tagged gave the tagger a clear boundary using the word “STOP”.

Next week, it is our turn to return books to Lane Cove library on Monday and hopefully, the weather will be dry enough for us to go to Pottery Green for our 2nd soccer session, on Tuesday. We also have a whole school excursion booked to another school, Kinma, located in Terry Hills. We will travel by bus for a musical incursion, on Thursday. In between all this Bella will plan and teach some lessons on Verbs and Adverbs and Mass, for our Maths. On Friday next week, it is Wear it Purple Day! We’ve spoken to the children about what this event is about and that they can wear purple to support inclusion and diversity.

That’s it for this week folks!

Love, Sarah
