Sarah’s Class Week 3 Term 3
Hello everyone,
I hope you’ve all had a nice weekend. We’ve had another good week doing a variety of interesting things. Once again, we were so lucky to have the rain stay away for us on Tuesday morning, enabling us to go bushwalking. This week, we ventured into the Mushroom Forest. Unfortunately, we could not find any mushrooms but the creek was crisp and clean. Thankfully, everyone managed to come out (from the forest) dry this week! Our Soundwaves focus this week was the sound ‘S’ as in ‘SS, S, CE, X, SE, C’. From our measurement unit we moved on from Length to Area and Perimeter. We learnt about the formal unit of measurement: squared centimetres and metre squares and recognised what we would measure using each unit. We then made a metre square out of newspaper and measured the Area and Perimeter of the handball court.
For our topic on Technology we reflected on what technology is and how it is used. We looked at various technological devices and their functions and we completed a timeline of the telephone and how they have changed. We also read a book called “Rosie Revere Engineer” and looked at the different types of engineers and what they do. We had another lovely lesson with Kim, our new music teacher, who taught the children how to write musical notation. We also learnt about the different types of sentences there are, specifically, the differences between a statement, exclamation, question and command. Our Rock and Water focus this week reiterated the importance of showing RESPECT to others. In our ROCK the children practiced being strong and unmoved by their partner who attempted to disrupt their focus and intent. Carolina also did some Rock and Water with her groups in Spanish.
The majority of children are powering their way through their personal projects this term and we have a range of interesting topics being researched: sea shells, Australian army, meteors, whales, NASA, Sydney Harbour Bridge, deadly animals and North Korea.
I am very much looking forward to starting parent/teacher interviews this coming week and will email your child’s report the day before for you to read. Please come with any questions and/or curiosities on your child’s development for us to discuss.
That’s it!
Love, Sarah
