Jess and Susan’s Class Week 3 Term 3
Dear Parents,
This week, we had a lot of fun by starting a mini unit about fairy tales that I am calling “Once Upon a View”. We will explore a range of well known fairy tales and consider them from different perspectives and re-tell them in new ways. We started this week by reading the traditional version of Red Riding Hood and the children were surprised by how gruesome it was! We then summarised the parts and also acted out our favourite scenes. It was a lot of fun!
We continued with the Rock and Water program this week when Susan and I are crossing-over our teaching times to deliver the program together. The program was developed to support children to find their centre, give clear messages and stand up for themselves and others. These are concepts that dovetail beautifully with the principles of conflict resolution.
In mathematics, we are shifting our thinking towards multiplication and I’m encouraging the children to think by grouping and partitioning. We looked at fact families this week and the ways in which multiplication and division are related. On Thursday, we explored capacity by comparing various containers to a litre.
Our work on the history of transport is progressing and the children produced some beautifully detailed illustrations of different types of land transport over time.
This term, our sports focus is ball skills. This week we played pickleball, and the children also voted for AFL, soccer, cricket, and basketball as sports to explore. Please ensure children wear appropriate shoes and bring a hat and water bottle. As we may walk to Pottery Green in the coming weeks, and the grounds could be muddy, please wear suitable clothing.
Happy weekend!
