Jess and Susan’s Class Week 3 Term 1

From Jess:

The children have done an excellent job identifying personification in our class novel and have enjoyed incorporating this technique into their own writing. It was fantastic to see them recognise how much more engaging writing becomes when we use figurative language like personification.

In maths, we’ve continued our exploration of place value, focusing on adding numbers in various columns and breaking apart large numbers into groups of thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones. A strong grasp of place value is essential for tackling more advanced maths concepts, so it’s crucial that we take the time now—and throughout the year—to build a solid understanding.

From Susan:

We have settled into the Thursday routine and the children are really enjoying their ERICS time.  We continued measurement in maths, focused on millimetres, and utilised cardinal and ordinal directions so we could follow instructions for drawing animal shapes into our grid books. The Elders continued planning their PIPs using a mind map scaffold, and the younger children read a fact sheet about poisonous plants and highlighted keywords.

On Tuesday, swimming continued swimmingly and we concentrated on our freestyle kicking.  Special thanks to Jane again for assisting!

Have a lovely weekend
