Jess and Susan’s Class Week 2 Term 4

Dear parents,

The script for the school concert  is progressing nicely, with all children now being allocated a character and lines! Most children have developed their character  profiles and in craft, they have begun to explore what costume they will need and the pieces they will need to make.

In English, we refreshed our understanding of conjunctions (joining words) and their importance in differentiating meaning when joining clauses in a sentence. We also did some free writing and dictation work to support creativity and fluency. In maths, we explored strategies for multiplying single digit numbers with multiples of ten and some of the children learned the written strategy for stacking multiplication.

Our PIP session this week was very productive, with lots of extra helpers. Jess, her daughter Alice, and Thaisa joined us to support the children with planning and research, and many students have now begun creating their presentations.

Despite cancelling our visit to Lane Cove library on Monday (due to the extreme heat), we did enjoy our first trip to Lane Cove Pool. Due to a mix-up with our lane booking, we spent the entire session having fun in the leisure pool. Next Tuesday, our excursion to the dance performance means we’ll miss our swimming session—so there’s no need to pack swimming gear.

In maths, we continued exploring measurement with a focus on grams, experimenting with a range of pantry products and classroom materials. Our timed reading sessions are also continuing this term to build reading fluency, and the children are enjoying tracking their progress on their spreadsheets and graphs.

On Friday, it was wonderful to enjoy the pampering treatments at the children’s nail, hair and massage salon. Rainbow nails, the massage ball and plaits were a hit!

Warm wishes,

Jess and Susan
