Jess and Susan Group Week 7 Term 1

From Jess

We began the week by exploring decimal places, focusing on tenths and hundredths. The children did a fantastic job of multiplying and dividing numbers by multiples of 10, using the helpful trick of adding zeros and sliding the decimal point up and down. Of course, we emphasized that it’s the number that moves, not the decimal itself! The children are now eager to learn more timetable tricks, which we’ll dive into very soon.

We’ve also started writing a class newspaper, which has been a lot of fun. The children are showing a great sense of humor in the articles they’re creating. Card games and Monopoly are popular pastimes at the moment, and we’re excited to share that our new desks have arrived, giving everyone a bit more space to spread out!

From Susan

A highlight this week was Summer Hill Day. There were so many fabulous choices including knitting Nancy, scrunchie making, mandala colouring, tie dye, playing at The Secret Garden, capture the flag and more!

We continued kicking with kickboards, safety jumps and swimming laps at Lane Cove Pool, and in maths we completed our length topic.

We had a quick PIP session after unwrapping and setting up our new tables, and the children have been brilliant in ERICS. We have been building on our dictionary skills for ERICS and looked at synonyms that are included in our class dictionaries.
