From Jess and Susan Week 6 Term 3

Dear Parents,

This week we read the traditional version of The Three Little Pigs. We brainstormed similarities with Little Red Riding Hood, which included the presence of an evil wolf, a gruesome ending, and a moral or lesson. We decided the main lessons were: don’t be lazy, stick together, do things properly, and think ahead for the long term.

To practise their writing, the children completed a dictation summarising The Three Little Pigs and also wrote thank-you letters to Maryam Master and Siobhan for visiting us during Book Week.

In maths, we learned about square numbers and how they form actual squares. We got out the Cuisenaire rods and experimented further with multiplication and division. Some children were introduced to the square root symbol and the concept of remainders in division.

As part of our topic on Moving Through Time, we began to explore the fascinating period known as the Age of Exploration. This era, marked by daring voyages and the discovery of new lands, offered a rich opportunity for the children to delve into history. To deepen their learning, the children completed a brief research project, where they investigated a pirate of their choice.

Wear It Purple Day on Friday was a beautiful celebration of diversity and inclusion. Thank you to Louie and Kitty, who read the picture book, A House for Everyone at the school meeting, and to Wendy’s class, who served purple jelly after our disco on the decking.

Happy weekend!
