Amelia’s group week 5 Term 3
Happy Book Week everyone!
We had a lovely week exploring a range of different texts each day, as well as going to each class in the morning to hear the teachers read a book to the school. We were very lucky to have a moment of sunshine on Friday for the parade and for the children to show off their book character costumes.
We welcomed Savannah to our class on Monday. If you see her around the playground or her parents Amy and Charles, please say a hello and introduce yourself!
In our ‘Natural Disasters’ unit this week, we looked at Tsunamis. I asked the children to work in small groups and write down everything they already know about tsunamis on post it notes. We completed filled a poster with everything they know and I was so impressed to see their teamwork and discussions to note as much as they could. We then watched real helicopter footage of the 2011 Tsunami, and clarified some of our understandings, particularly what is the difference between a wave and a tsunami.
There has been a little bit of unrest in the group this week. I think a number of the children are finding our time in the library challenging and are missing our old classroom. I know I am! Unfortunately I still do not have a clear idea of when we will be back in, but it is important for us to keep an eye on our children’s energy levels as they may be more tired or sensitive than usual! I am reading books on positivity and speaking about gratitudes to keep the group moral high and focus on what we have rather than what we don’t!
