Amelia’s class term 3 week 6

Hi everyone,

I hope you have all had a beautiful week. We have had a couple of really lovely events this week, including our excursion to Kinma Primary School and celebrating Wear It Purple Day. Our trip to Kinma was absolutely lovely, as we had the opportunity to explore a school with an alternative approach to education, but still quite different to Currambena and our values. Kinma and Currambena have had a long-standing relationship, particularly as we both opened within a few years of each other, so it was nice for me and the children to visit their site for the first time. We enjoyed an incursion called ‘Musica Viva’ then spent lunchtime playing with the Kinma kids.

On Friday, we had a lovely disco on the handball court at the end of the day to celebrate Wear It Purple Day. Wear It Purple Day is an international celebration that advocates for diversity and inclusion, particularly for gender diversity and the LGTBQIA+ community. It was lovely to see so much purple to brighten up our Friday. Also thank you to TBU for organising the bake stall on Thursday afternoon and to any of you that bought a cake to support the Wear It Purple Foundation!

This week we learnt about cyclones and tornadoes, and unpacked their key differences including where and how they form, their size, and their speed. We also learnt more about the meanings of the terms hurricane, cyclone and typhoon particularly their global locations. If you do have any spare, clear plastic bottles at home, please bring them in next week, so we can make a cyclone in a bottle!

Another reminder, if you are able to help out in organising the BBQ lunch for our class on our excursion to Tambourine Bay on Wednesday 24th September, please catch me or shoot me an email. At the moment I only have one volunteer so we will need one or two more helpers.
