Wendy’s Group Week 7 Term 3
Many thanks to Pepper for taking my group while I was in Bulli on Thursday and Friday with my daughter and young grandson.
The main highlight this week was the skipping! Our group ran the Jump Rope for Heart event again this year and it was fabulous to see so many of the children learning new skills and getting such great exercise! We were very lucky with the weather on Tuesday afternoon… not too hot and no rain… and we began with some demonstrations of the different skills and skipping games that were going to be offered. We then had different skipping stations around the school where children could try out things like skier, criss cross, partner skipping, backwards skipping and also some games using the long rope such as Teddy Bear and High Low Jolly Peppers. Huge thanks to all the parents who helped their child or children to sign up for some fundraising with the Heart Foundation. The children had set a goal of $3500 this year and we’ll know our final total in a week or so. It’s OK to sign up retrospectively so please help your children if they are keen.
In class this week we made a great start on persuasive writing, with a revision lesson from Loki, a mind map and writing task. There were some very persuasive pieces as a result!
In Maths, we looked at area and symmetry, rearranging shapes to find their area. Year 6 have learned how to find the area of triangles and parallelograms as well as squares and rectangles.
In Geography, we continued to learn about ways in which humans interact with environments and also worked on mini PIPs on countries and Term 3 PIPs are due next week.
We have started looking at online safety through some short videos about range of internet issues. This flows on from our work on friendships, emotions and personal safety networks. By the end of term, the older children in our group will be looking at the changes that occur during adolescence and discussing the physical an emotional aspects of this stage of their lives.
