Wendy’s Group Week 5 Term 4
Thank you so much to those kind people who have been doing some maintenance in the afternoons for us. It is greatly appreciated! The area behind our room is looking much more inviting after the work last Wednesday.
Our week has been full, as always! The play is coming along really well and excitement is building about the performance next Friday night. Our group has the chance to have a final rehearsal on the stage with the lights and microphones. This always makes a fabulous difference to the final performance for us. I’ve spoken with the group about this so please make sure your child is inside the hall with all their costume and props before 5pm so we can have a run through before the audience begins to arrive. I will be there from 4:30 so any time after that, please.
We are also getting excited about camp which is the week after the concert. Thank you so much to the people who have offered to help with the jobs. We brought most of the gear out from storage on Friday afternoon so snorkels and cooking utensils are now ready to be cleaned and checked. There are still some super important jobs needing volunteers such as checking the BBQ and unpacking when we return. Please look at the link in my email and offer your time if you possibly can.
This week we have started looking at measuring time… the history of this is so interesting! If there’s the opportunity, please give your child practise at reading time in whatever form is available, analog clocks, 24 hour, digital etc. Sometimes they know more than they realise!
In English we’ve been revising grammatical concepts such as parts of speech and we’ve been writing stories this week. Some of the children are writing amazing, long stories using increasingly interesting and complex sentences!
In swimming this week, we were able to use the 50m pool again and we practised free style and back stroke. It is great to see so many of the children managing a continuous 50m swim with strength and confidence. This is one of the core skills all 12 year olds should have, according to the National Safety Benchmarks, so definitely something to practise if they are not yet achieving this.
Two important Currambena events over the weekend! The re-launch of the Loch Ness Monster on Friday night, this time at Greenwich Sailing Club and the weekend camp organised by Farzad… I am sure both will be wonderful successes. Thank you so much to Farzad and to everyone, especially Crafty Chris, for all the work organising these.
