Wendy’s Group Week 5 Term 4
Play week! Dress rehearsals and last-minute costume and prop construction have been a big feature of the week, along with great excitement and anticipation ahead of Friday night. In spite of some inevitable moments of panic, it’s always such a fabulous learning experience for the group… jointly writing the play, learning lines, rehearsing, receiving feedback and improving performances each practice before the final performance! Our group’s play was written entirely by the children, with a writers’ group who asked everyone what character they wished to play and how large a part they wanted. The script was finalised, and rehearsals began not much more than two weeks ago. The focus and concentration in rehearsals were amazing, and everyone did a fantastic job learning lines, creating costumes and acting their character. A fabulous result. I feel so proud of them all.
This week we have continued with textbooks (sort of!) and completed some maths work on displacement as a way to measure the volume of irregular solids. We did our usual times tables and spelling practice too. As a group, we are enjoying listening to The Hunger Games and using this text for comprehension questions. PIPs are due at the end of next week so we can get all the presentations completed before camp. Most people seem to be pretty well on track for this.
On Monday, some of our group went with Olivia to the Remembrance Day ceremony up at Lane Cove. Thanks, Olivia, for enabling this experience for them. At school, we discussed the importance of remembering how terrible war is and holding on to our hopes that the wars currently raging in the world will soon be over.
All of our elders contributed to Information Morning on Wednesday which was well attended. Our Year 6 leavers are counting off their “last times” … last Information Morning, last Currambena Concert. A very busy five more weeks of the school year still to come.
Not much else to say this week except congratulations to all the performers on Friday night!
