Wendy’s Group Week 4 Term 4
We’ve had another terrific week, especially with play rehearsals which are going well. Almost all the children know all their lines already and everyone is doing a great job, refining the details and beginning to polish performances. Props and costumes are also looking good!
This week, we’ve finished off with measuring mass. Everyone had a turn cooking and using the scales to measure the ingredients. We practised times tables as usual and worked on textbooks as usual too. In English, we revised connectives, practised setting out some sentences neatly on a page, using cursive handwriting neatly, writing stories and doing some silent reading.
On Tuesday, we were allocated a lane in the outdoor pool for our swimming session and that meant we could practise treading water as well and swimming 50 metres of breaststroke. Even though some of the children hadn’t swum since last summer, it is obvious most are stronger and more confident.
On Wednesday, we had “Anything But a Backpack” Day. This was discussed and decided at Class Meeting a few weeks ago and involved some truly amazingly creative efforts! Such a lot of fun… as you’ll see from the photos… so much so that the group decided to do it again next week! I love it when the children come up with ideas like this!
Another fun idea this week was the cubby that suddenly appeared under our craft table! Coincidentally, there were also cubbies in many of the other classrooms this week. Must be something in the air. It certainly looked very comfortable and cosy in there!
Our art project in class this week was to create a pattern with circles using a pair of compasses. We have some very beautiful examples up on our wall now… along with some lovely water colour paintings.
I hope the Year 5 and 6 families have all received the email about camp. I will send home the permission notes on Monday.
And lastly, Fridays are such special days at Currambena. Here are just a few of the activities from the last one:
- seven children playing guitar for the whole school to sing “Beds are Burning” and “Rattling Bog” at School Meeting.
- Ex-student, Til, visiting for the day and helping out in Wendy’s room and playing handball.
- children and parents helping to put the tarpaulin over the newly painted Loch Ness Monster
- children using the school library for quiet work space and chatting
- mixed age handball games
- art works happening the the art room and the staff room
- cubbies being constructed in various indoor spaces
- lots of 1:1 teacher/student time
- quiet independent reading (even upside down!)
If you have never spent a Friday here at school, maybe think about making a day of it. I know that parking around the school is horrendous at the moment with the three major building projects happening in Longueville Road and River Road, but if you do find a park where you can stay all day… please consider joining us for some Friday fun!
Have a great week!
Love, Wendy
