Wendy’s Group Week 3 Term 4
Hi everyone.
Huge thanks to Meg, Lily and Jessica for holding the fort last week while I was staying with my daughter, Anna, and her new baby son, Arthur. Photo attached! He is gorgeous, of course, and they are doing well. He’s even sleeping for four hours in a row already! Thanks to everyone for their kind wishes and congratulations.
This week has been busy and fun as usual. In English, we’ve revised parts of speech and learned about prepositions and their uses. We’ve also, of course, been finalising the script for our play! Very exciting. The kids have done an amazing job writing it and rehearsals will start in earnest next week once we get Halloween out of our systems!
In Maths, we’ve revised times tables as usual and also worked on 3D shapes and volume. There is some brilliant 3D sketching happening.
In HSIE, Lily and Jessica have presented lessons on Aboriginal culture and perspectives, relating this to Booderee National Park and the Aboriginal community in Jervis Bay. We watched and listened to Bernie McLeod, an Aboriginal elder whom we met last year during our camp week.
Costumes and props are being made in craft and we had a terrific swimming session on Tuesday, using the 50 m pool and practising treading water and floating on backs. Everyone attempted to swim two laps, using any stroke, stopping only briefly after one lap. This is my way of checking that they are water safe and can play in the deep water where they are out of their depth. Of course, water safety and swimming stamina are important for camp in Week 9, too.
Thursday’s Halloween costumes were amazing! Thank you to Lily and Jessica for decorating our room and also thank you to Lilith and Judy for the incredible Halloween cupcakes! Enjoy the photos of the parade!
I hope you are enjoying the Year 6 My time at Currambena pieces and the photos of our leavers. We have eight wonderful people leaving for high school this year, going in different directions and all well very ready and well-equipped for this new step. We are very proud of them all.
Monday night at 6pm is our postponed Camp Meeting. As I said in my email, the induction is essential for anyone hoping to stay overnight with us at camp. I will talk about the camp program and about some of the extraordinary growth opportunities a camp like this provides for the children. Hope to see you there.
