Wendy’s Class Week 2 Term 3
Hi everyone.
The children obviously had a lovely first three days of term with Pepper while I was at the APDEC conference in Indonesia. Thanks so much to Pepper for taking the group. The conference was a wonderful experience. We heard from inspiring educators who work in schools like ours right across the region and I was able to catch up with some very dear friends who are educators in this community, an added bonus!
It was lovely to see all the children again on Monday! As usual, many of them have grown over the break! Everyone seems rested and revitalised.
This week we have launched into PIP research and also mini PIPs on countries as we are working on geography this term. We have almost finished the Data topic in Maths that we began last term. In English, we read a short story about plague locusts, a first person narrative from the perspective of the locusts. We then wrote stories from the point of view of an insect. Some terrific creative writing!
We had a fun time on Tuesday looking at healthy eating, revising the five food groups and assessing the healthy ingredients in the lunches of a a few volunteers. I’d love to know if any of the kids spoke to you about this at home! Our PE program for the term is going to involve an excursion to a Trampoline Park. We’ll need drivers to help get us there please and I’ll send details once they are decided. We’ll also be running the Jump Rope For Heart program this term to raise money for the Heart Foundation, and get fit and strong at the same time!
We have begun to focus again on learning times tables and it is great to see so many children mastering the ones they’ve been working on and moving on to the next. Reading skills are also developing well and I’m looking forward to speaking with you at our parent interviews about your child’s progress. I hope everyone will have access to the interview timetable document now so please sign up if you haven’t already.
We are also continuing with our Protective Behaviours work in PD on relationships and emotions and I have been deeply impressed with the emotional intelligence being demonstrated in the group during these sessions. The self-awareness, insight and ability to articulate feelings and relationship issues is fabulous. So are the questions being asked through the question box, which is proving a great success.
Overall, it was a wonderful week for us in our group! I hope you can all say the same!
With love,
Wendy
