Wendy’s Group Week 1 Term 2

So lovely to see all the children again this week. Many have grown taller and all have reported enjoying the holiday break. Some great holiday stories!

Also lovely to see all the new tanbark distributed where it was needed! A huge thank you to the maintenance team!

We launched straight into things on Tuesday morning with presentations of our water designs from last term completed with Jess’s group. It was great to hear the children speak confidently about the model they had created, explaining their intentions and their design processes. Everyone is now writing reflections on the process to complete the science topic and our group is moving on to history this term. It’s really fascinating to hear the wide range of historical topics they are interested in investigating! My role is to make sure we cover the essential content (mostly aspects of Indigenous and Australian history in the new curriculum) as well as make space for personal interests!

In English, we’re looking at the novel “Runt” by Craig Silvey and moving into imaginative writing which will be fun. In Maths, we’re finishing off multiplication and then moving on to fractions. Please remember that it is a great help if there is some times tables practice at home, in the car, or any time that’s practical. The children all know what they’re working on at the moment. Saying them aloud in order until it’s in the memory and then being tested on them out of order will be a great help. Some members of our group have mastered all the essential ones up to 12 times and have moved on the 13x and 14x and beyond! I need to make a practice page for 15x for next week!!

Next Tuesday, we are hoping to go to Ryde Pool for a joint excursion with Jess’s group to celebrate the end of the Water Project. A separate email has been sent about this. Please offer to help with driving if you can.

Lots to look forward to this term with the Art Week lanterns, social at Tambourine Bay, mini concert, Lane Cove Children’s Voices for Reconciliation event, Year 6/7 night and an excursion to the Children’s Writer’s Festival for Jess’s and our group. See the calendar for the dates in the next newsletter. We also have a couple of student teachers in the first half of the term. A full program as usual!
