Wendy’s Group Term 3 Week 7
It has been so lovely to be back with the group this week. It was no fun being sick, but also no fun missing the everyday joy and activity of being part of Currambena. Thank you so much to Susan, Fin and Meg, my very competent student teacher, for looking after the group while I was away…. and huge thank you to everyone for their kind wishes, messages, gifts and thoughts. Much appreciated!
This week has been busy as always! In English, we are continuing to work with connectives to create more interesting sentences. We’ve also been practising note taking, writing dot points to capture important information. Spelling textbook Unit 20 is due this week.
In Maths, we’re into angles, measuring and naming, tessellations and transformations. Some of the mathematical language makes it sound quite complex but the concepts are all ones the children have met before… flip, slide and turn have become reflection, translation and rotation. Our art project for this week is to colour a printed tessellation to make it look 3D.
On Summerhill Day this week, we had an amazing range of activities from which to choose! I was delighted to have a slightly larger group than usual for algebra this time… and they all did brilliantly with the next steps in this fun type of maths. We had a full complement of cooks for rice paper rolls… and we’re becoming more and more efficient with the preparation so there was plenty of time to eat!
I hope everyone is feeling excited about the 55th birthday party on Saturday 14th! The cake plates have all gone home and the email has gone out asking us all to sign up to help on the day. It should be heaps of fun!
We watched the fourth in our series of cyber safety videos this week and the topic was doing the right thing on-line. In the discussion with the group, several children who play on-line games spoke about how, in their view, it is not only acceptable but expected that angry, aggressive swearing and threatening language is used by players in on-line chat in certain games. We discussed the fact that language can be very powerful in negative ways and we cannot be sure how our words on-line actually affect someone else. If your children play on-line games, please continue this discussion with them.
And lastly, I am trying to book our end of year camp for the week starting Monday 9th December through to Friday 13th. We will hopefully be going to Booderee National Park at Jervis bay and camping in tents for the five days. I need adults to volunteer to come with us please and I would love to find out who is interested and especially to find out who has camping experience they might be able to share. Please email me asap to let me know if you might be willing to help.
