Wendy’s Group Term 3 Week 3

Thank you to everyone who came along on Wednesday evening for our Philosophy Night. It was wonderful to see and hear from five of our alumni, all so engaged with their lives and ongoing education. It was also gorgeous to see the short video Vinnie put together with some of our current students talking about what is important to them about Currambena. Thank you, Vinnie! Thank you also to Olivia for pulling the whole evening together and hosting it so well and to Carolina, Archana and their helpers for the delicious soup! Perfect for a cold night.

We’ve had an eventful week so far with a highlight being a drumming lesson and demo from Shane, Tt’s dad. Thank you so much, Shane! It was so interesting to hear Shane’s story of learning to drum himself and hopefully, we’ll have some people keen to practise while we have the drums in our room. Independent limb movement is a challenge!

Preparations for the birthday party on 14th September are getting very much underway now… we have some old photos in our room and Archana was sorting these this week accompanied by an appreciative audience…. “I remember him/her!” “Who’s that?”

n English, we are revising some grammatical concepts, parts of speech and punctuation conventions of speech. We’re continuing to read “Hunger Games” as our shared book. I have started including a fourth, more challenging list of spelling words in our Wednesday spelling activities because some of us are such excellent spellers! Very exciting!

In Maths we are just finishing off fractions and decimals and will be moving on to aspects of measurement after the Canberra trip. Our student teacher, Meg, will be with us full-time for five weeks once we return from Canberra so there’ll be extra opportunities for small groups and hands-on activities.

In art, our group has contributed to the Lane Cove Children’s Art Project, along with all the other classes. The painted fabric will be made into bunting for display in the plaza… so we’ll have to watch out for that.

Excitement is building for our Canberra trip next week. An early start on Wednesday morning! I hope everyone is packing tightly over the weekend!
