Wendy’s Group Term 3 Week 2

Excitement is building for a trip to Canberra. We’re discussing the different venues we’ll be visiting and next week we’ll be starting work on the history of federation and the Australian government in preparation for visiting Parliament House and the Electoral Office.

In class this week, we have been finishing off work on fractions in maths and looking at a variety of texts in English, analysing how the authors and illustrators convey their messages to different audiences and for different purposes. We’re also working on some geographical concepts and watched some short films about how tectonic plates move on the planet. We also reviewed our correspondence with our sponsor child, Emmanuel who lives in Zambia… so we learned a bit about Zambia, too.

Everyone has made a flying start on PIPs this term with topics already chosen and some well underway with slide presentations… one already complete! It’s such a joy to see this love of learning in operation… when children choose what they want to investigate, the results can be spectacular!

Our DJ skills session with Nate was great fun on Monday and we have also had some S-ML time this week… S-ML stands for Self-Managed Learning and in this time, everyone chooses what they need to work on. The list of MUST DOs in on the whiteboard and it’s great to hear children discussing their priorities and planning how to use the time.

I’m having regular requests at the moment for extra food at lunchtime. I try to keep a loaf of bread in the fridge so hungry kids can make themselves a sandwich. Maybe check in with your child to make sure they are packing enough lunch for themselves!

Thank you to the parents who have already signed up for parent interviews. There are still many time available so please email or come in and sign up. I cannot do Monday afternoons but on other days, 8 am is usually possible as well as 3, 3:30 and 4 pm most afternoons.
