The Purple Hearts Term 3 Week 2
Hi all,
Thanks for a wonderful afternoon tea celebration for our 100 days of learning! The children were very excited all day making the obstacle course and some hats. They were particularly excited about the afternoon party and sharing food. Thanks for those that could make it, and we missed all those who weren’t able to come.
Our reading stations have gone well this week with a variety of activities. We have begun with some paper copies of books that use our second set of sounds to make some three letter words mixed with some camera words. We will start sending these home from next week, if you would like to read them with your children.
The children also loved their first DJ sessions for Music with Nate. The children are learning to select the right song for the group at a good speed and play it on the CDJ through a mixer for the other children to enjoy.
Our informative writing has begun with distinguishing between facts and opinions. Looking at texts written to inform compared to entertain. Next week we will begin constructing our own sentences using writing scaffolds. The children have chosen to focus on dinosaurs, and we have looked at possible excursions. They voted to go to the Australian Museum to the Dinosaur Exhibitions. I will book this for later in the term and try to give everyone enough notice so you can join!
This week with our 100th day of learning we looked at some skip counting. Skip counting in tens to count to one hundred. We also looked at starting to count from any number from 0-20. We continue our daily maths activities in our Morning Routine with focusing on one number, representing it in different ways. This week we focused on using a number line, writing the number before and after and trying to write a sentence of ____ many tens and ____ many ones.
This Monday we are off to the library in the afternoon. We also have a philosophical evening on the Wednesday evening and the beginning of Science week on Thursday for the next seven school days.
