The Axolotls: Term 3 Week 6

Dear families,

This week we celebrated book week! Here is a summary of our learning:

  • Book Day Parade – followed by reading our favourite stories from home and school throughout the week.
  • Illustrator and Author visits including Serena Geddes at Lane Cove Library.
  • Craft with Crafty Chris – blind contour drawings.
  • Social skill focus – ‘Wear it purple day’ to support, celebrate, and empower individuality and LGBTQIA+ youth.
  • ‘Our living world’ Science unit of work. Setting up a ‘bean in a bag’ germination experiment and making predictions about what we think might happen.
  • New sustaining jobs on Friday, helping to care for our school.
  • Spanish on Wednesday with Carolina – exploring Latin dance, and Zumba class!
  • Music on Monday with Kym, singing ‘You are my sunshine’ and learning Auslan signs.
  • Enjoying a bake sale to support those affected by the earthquakes in Columbia.

Juniors (Early Stage 1)

  • Soundwaves: x, qu. Sentence writing.
  • Mathematics – forming equal groups by sharing, and counting collections of objects.
  • Handwriting – x (rainy day letters and patterns)
  • Literacy stations – group reading with Joanna, Soundwaves books, writing/tracing.

Elders (Stage 1)

  • Soundwaves: ir, er, ur.
  • Mathematics – using the structure of equal groups to solve multiplication problems, and sharing or grouping to solve division problems.
  • Handwriting – x (rainy day letters) words and sentences.
  • Literacy stations – group reading and comprehension/ extension with Joanna, Soundwaves books, sight word writing and sentences.
  • GIP (Group interest project) ‘Insect Detectives’ with Faith and the Year 1 children.

Tuesday afternoon will be ‘Jump rope for heart’, it’s not too late to support and fundraise. Thank you for getting involved. Please RSVP and come along to our philosophy night next Tuesday 1st September. I’m looking forward to being part of it.
