The Axolotls: Term 3 Week 5
Dear families,
It has been such a fun week in the Axolotl class, with Science morning on Tuesday, and Art Week Wednesday – Friday. Here is a summary of our learning this week:
Science morning: exploring potential and kinetic energy by making elastic band rockets with Joanna and Faith. Exploring aerodynamics by making paper airplanes with Sarah and Pepper.
Art week – children rotated through all experiences in a group with an artist and a teacher. Charcoal animation with Neil, plasticine animation with Cale, zine & comic creation with Siobhan, procreate with Ryan and live action green screen film making with Jackie.
Social skill focus – making appropriate and safe play choices. Reflecting on our choices and our class agreement. Asking for help.
Sport on Tuesday: Pickleball (Kiaan, Zahli, Anja, Deeba), Games at school (Liam), Basketball (June, Nico, Leo, Jack, Ravi, Felix, Solly, Kioto), Indigenous games (Ezra).
Sustaining on Friday, helping to care for our school.
Music on Monday with Kym.

Juniors (Early Stage 1)
Soundwaves: ll, zz, s. Sentence writing.
Mathematics – exploring capacity and volume. Comparing the capacity and volume of containers by filling/ pouring water and non-standard units.
Literacy stations – group reading with Joanna, Soundwaves books, writing/tracing.
Elders (Stage 1)
Soundwaves: s, ss, x, se. Blends sk, sc, sl. Suffixes ed, ing..
Mathematics – exploring capacity and volume. Comparing the capacity and volume of containers by filling/ pouring water and non-standard units.
Literacy stations – group reading and comprehension/ extension with Joanna, Soundwaves books, sight word writing and sentences.
Please be aware that I will be holding parent-teacher interviews in our classroom after school over the next few weeks.
Next week we will continue our learning about protective behaviours, including private body parts, appropriate language and play, feeling safe, and seeking help.
Next week is Book Week. We encourage the children to dress up as a book character on Monday (24th) and we will have a parade at 9am. Families are welcome to stay for the parade, and feel free to visit our school library with your child. There will also be a book
stall where you can purchase a new book for our school library.
On Tuesday (25th) the children will visit Lane Cove Library to visit the author Serena Geddes.
On Wednesday (26th) the children will have Zumba classes with Carolina and a Zumba teacher.
Frida, Kuru and Emma from Jess’ class will also be running a stall on Wednesday lunch time to raise money for those affected by the earthquake in Columbia. Children are encouraged to bring gold coins, no more than $5.
