The Axolotls: Term 2 Week 8

Dear families,

It has been a very kind and social week in the Axolotl class. Here is a summary of our learning this week:

• Tuesday Sport – Tennis at Lane Cove Tennis club. Coach Juan practised racket and ball skills with the children and introduced simple coordination games. The children are making great progress and they are all participating so well.
• Social skill focus – reflecting on how we show respect for one another, and our environment. Respecting how we all learn in different ways.
• Responding to the book ‘The Owl who was afraid of the dark’ by Jill Tomlinson. Describing how the characters feel and noticing the changes from the beginning to the end of the story.
• Exploring sound energy in Science and Technology. Exploring natural and man-made sounds and sorting instruments by how the sound is made.
• Craft with Crafty Chris – modelling and sculpture with fimo clay..
• Sustaining on Friday, helping to care for our school.
• Spanish on Wednesday – role-play cafe, la comida (food).
• Testing the water in the tank, getting ready for our pet axolotl. Discussing the responsibilities involved in caring for a pet.

Juniors (Early Stage 1)

• Soundwaves: u, b. Special words: to. Sentence writing.
• Mathematics – exploring and comparing the area of objects. Dividing by half, sharing into 2 equal groups.
• Soundwaves books.

Elders (Stage 1)

• Soundwaves: m, mm, M. Blending: sm, mp. Suffixes: ed, ing..
• Mathematics – comparing and measuring the area of shapes/ objects. Dividing by half, sharing into 2 equal groups.
• Literacy stations – group reading and comprehension/ extension, Soundwaves books, sight word writing and sentences.

Next Monday 15th June, we will go to Lane Cove Library at 1.30pm. It would be great to have a parent helper, please let me know if you are available. Children may like to bring a tote bag/ similar to carry their books.

Just a reminder also, that the deadline for Scholastic book club orders is: 15th June.
