The Axolotls: Term 2 Week 4

Dear families,

It has been a calm and collaborative week in the Axolotl class. Here is a summary of our learning this week:

  • Craft with Crafty Chris – action paintings and wax candles.
  • Social skill focus – learning about protective behaviours. Recognising, listening to, and responding to body signs when we feel worried or scared.
  • The children continue to work with their ‘talk partners’ for short discussions and experiences to support our areas of learning.
  • Class jobs – as suggested by the children during class meetings last term, the children have been allocated jobs such as bell monitor, chair monitor, librarian etc.
  • Responding to the story ‘Birdsong by the Billabong’ by Maura Finn & Cate James. Creating our own texts based on the repeated phrases and rhythm of the story.
  • Sustaining on Friday, helping to care for our school.
  • Spanish on Wednesday – clothes swap, vocabulary for items of clothing.

Juniors (Early Stage 1)

  • Soundwaves: p, o. Special words: is off.
  • Mathematics – repeating patterns and number patterns.

Next Wednesday 20th May is our class fundraiser for an axolotl pet. It will run during lunchtime, 12.30-1.30pm. Each child is encouraged to bring in coins for a toy and bake sale. No more than $5, ideally coins.

Thank you to those who have volunteered to help on the day, or by baking at home. If you wish to donate toys, please no more than 3 per family, and quality and clean toys only.

Thank you so much for your support, the children are so excited!

Have a lovely weekend everyone,
Joanna
