The Axolotls: Term 1 Week 9

Dear families,

It has been a calm and playful week in the Axolotl class. Here is a summary of our learning this week:

  • Craft with Sarah – stamping and independent artworks.
  • Social skill focus – what matters to me and diversity. Celebrating diversity and individuality.
  • Nowruz puppet show for Persian New Year. Sharing and recording the celebrations that are important to our families.
  • Enjoying fruit from our community fruit bowl.
  • Class meeting chaired by Leo and Hazel – topics discussed included: consequences for not helping at packing-away time, debrief after our lockdown practice, keeping the bathrooms clean and tidy.
  • Sustaining on Friday, helping to care for our school.
  • Music on Monday, Spanish on Wednesday, and ‘What Matters’ Festival on Friday. Performing our class song ‘Family is everything.’

Juniors (Early Stage 1)

  • Soundwaves and Literacy stations (with Joanna) – phoneme – grapheme relationship (letter sounds) s,i.Starting to decode and read words such as; at, it, sat, sit.
  • Mathematics – grouping, representing number, individual assessments with Joanna.
  • P.E. with Joanna on Tuesday – Fundamental Movement Skills – hopping, galloping, and side-stepping.Obstacle courses, and ‘Hoop Count’ social game.

Elders (Stage 1)

  • Literacy stations (with Amelia) – group reading, Soundwaves books.
  • Soundwaves – f,ff.Reading and spelling cvc, cvcc, ccvcc words.
  • Mathematics – grouping and sharing, addition and making 10 to add, individual assessments with Joanna.
  • Individual reading with Joanna/ Parent helper (every child)
  • Swimming with Ameila’s class

Next week our Elders have an additional swimming session on Tuesday. Thank you to all of the families who joined us for our ‘What Matters’ Festival. The children felt proud and excited to show their work and artistic creations.
