The Axolotls: Term 1 Week 6

Dear families,

It has been a friendly and inclusive week in the Axolotl class. Here is a summary of our learning this week:

  • Craft with Sarah – cardboard creations, using recycled materials.
  • Group interest project with Amelia’s class – Oceans. Reading ‘Magic Beach’ by Alison Lester and responding through drama.
  • Social skill focus – welcoming a new friend into our class and being inclusive in our play.
  • Reading and responding to the story ‘Tom Tom’ by Rosebery Sullivan and Dee Huxley. Recording our comprehension through drawing.
  • Enjoying fruit from our community fruit bowl.
  • Class meeting – topics discussed included: keeping the bathroom clean, and putting paper towels in the bin, speaking to our friends in respectful ways.
  • Sustaining on Friday, helping to care for our school.
  • Music on Mondays, Spanish on Wednesdays.
  • Team sport games on Tuesday with Joanna. ‘Beat the ball’ and ‘Across the river’. Practising fundamental movement skills.

Juniors (Early Stage 1)

  • Soundwaves and Literacy stations (with Joanna) – phoneme – grapheme relationship (letter sounds) m, a.
  • Mathematics – Forming groups – patterns. Recognising, describing, continuing repeating patterns.
  • Handwriting – Kangaroo hop letters (m)

Elders (Stage 1)

  • Literacy stations (with Amelia) – group reading, Soundwaves books.
  • Soundwaves – e,ea. Reading and spelling cvc, cvcc, ccvcc words.
  • Mathematics – Forming groups. Equal grouping, sharing, and multiplication problems.
  • Handwriting – Kangaroo hop letters (words and sentences with ‘m’)
  • Individual reading with Joanna/ Parent helper (every child)
