The Axolotls: Term 1 Week 4

Dear families,

It has been a confident and expressive week in the Axolotl class. Here is a summary of our learning this week:

• Celebrating ‘Carnival’ and performing in/watching our school parade.
• Craft with Sarah D – making masks for ‘Carnival’. Creating canvases of people who matter to us.
• Group interest project with Amelia’s class – Oceans. Reading and responding to the story ‘The Rainbow Fish’ and creating individual fish collages.
• Social skill focus – kindness and equality. Reading and responding to the story ‘Here we are’ by Oliver Jeffers. Making ‘kindness’ posters to display around the school. Reading and responding to the book ‘Everyone is equal’ and discussing themes such as gender equality and diversity.
• Discussing ‘Lunar New Year’ celebrations and enjoying a traditional treat together.
• Enjoying fruit from our community fruit bowl.
• Library excursion.

Juniors (Early Stage 1)

• Literacy stations (with Joanna) – fine motor skill development, exploring cvc words with picture cards and magnetic letters (e.g. cat) .
• Soundwaves – sorting pictures by medial phoneme e.g. a – hand, man, cap.
• Mathematics – Representing number – one-to-one correspondence and counting up to 10 objects with accuracy.
• Handwriting – Rainy day letters (such as t)

Elders (Stage 1)

• Literacy stations (with Amelia) – group reading, Soundwaves books.
• Soundwaves – a, exploring rhyme.
• Mathematics – Representing whole numbers – exploring place value and representing/ recognising 2-digit numbers 10-20.
• Handwriting – Rainy day letters (words and sentences with ‘t’)
• Individual reading with Joanna/ Parent helper (every child)

The Elders have swimming next Tuesday 24th February.
