The Axolotls: Term 1 Week 3

Dear families,

It has been a settled and happy week in the Axolotl class. Here is a summary of our
learning this week:

• Collaborating on a large axolotl painting outside.
• Craft with Sarah D – ‘What matters’ profile portraits. Creating canvases of people who matter to us.
• Group interest project with Amelia’s class – Oceans. Learning about oceans, marine life, and experimenting with saline water (taste test).
• Recording in our ‘What matters’ journals – what matters to me.
• Social skill focus – reflecting on what feels fair and unfair in our play and learning. Respecting physical boundaries and being safe and gentle with our bodies.
• Saying ‘stop’ if we need to, and how/when to ask a teacher for help.
• Enjoying fruit from our community fruit bowl.

Juniors (Early Stage 1)

• Literacy stations (with Joanna) – fine motor skill development, tracing lines and patterns.
• Soundwaves – sorting pictures by initial phoneme and final phoneme e.g. j – jelly, jam.
• Mathematics – Representing number – recognising and recording numerals 0-10, one-one correspondence counting.
• Handwriting – Rainy day letters (such as l)

Elders (Stage 1)

• Literacy stations (with Amelia) – group reading, Soundwaves books.
• Soundwaves – Bb, blends br, bl, capital B and bb.
• Mathematics – Representing whole numbers – exploring number bonds and the relationship between addition and subtraction to solve problems.
• Handwriting – Rainy day letters (words and sentences with ‘l’)
• Individual reading with Joanna (every child)

Next Wednesday 18th is Spanish Carnival day! The children can dress ready for Carnival e.g. bright colours, flowers/floral.
