School Meeting Minutes 1.11.24

• Acknowledgement of Country

We would like to Acknowledge the Cammeraygal and Wallumettegal people of the Eora Nation. Thank you for sharing the land on which we meet today.

• iPad charging by Archana

Just a reminder to please put iPads back on charge after using them. They have been found unplugged for a number of days recently.

• Costume making in small groups by Crafty

Crafty will be inviting people to work on their costumes in small groups throughout the day today. It is just a reminder.

• Using chairs to reach the monkey bars by Wendy

Wendy has noticed people recently using chairs to help them reach the monkey bars or to climb back down. She wanted to clarify if there was an agreement that we can use the chairs. A discussion followed that we should not be climbing up things if we cannot climb back down independently, and that having the chairs underneath the monkey bars poses a safety risk if someone were to fall. Wendy asked for a vote if the chairs can be near the monkey bars or not. The majority voted no, they cannot.

• Compost bins by Vinnie and Jamie

Vinnie explained that we have been having some issues with wildlife eating food from our compost bins and he would like a discussion for some ideas on how to improve this issue. Jamie added that it can be dangerous for wildlife as the food could be unsafe for them to eat. She also suggested that we could get bins with lids that are emptied at the end of the day. The discussion following suggested to bring the bins inside the classroom during the day, to empty the bins into the compost drums in the top playground each afternoon as a pack-away job, or to get lidded-bins. Vinnie said thank you, and he will take these ideas back to his class and other classes can organise their own systems.

• Not letting people watch beyblades by Aidan

Aidan said he no longer needed this topic.

• Scooters by Rome and Sienna

Rome said that she has seen scooters and bikes left out of the designated rack everyday and she often trips on them or they get in her way. Can people please put them away after using. Sienna added that she has seen helmets also left out, and a number have already gotten lost. People also use other people’s scooters and helmets without asking. A discussion followed clarifying that the agreement is for all scooters, bikes, and helmets to be packed away after you use them, that you should not use someone else’s property without asking, and Mabel offered to organised the wheels rack during sustaining and possibly add stickers to distinguish the school vehicles from personal ones.
