Sarah’s Class Week 9 Term 2
How SPECTACULAR was our LOch Ness Monster floating across the bay on Tuesday night. And the lanterns all lined up under the dragon floating in the tree was so picturesque, as I walked down the hill. But our Nessie stole the show as it drifted around the Scout Hall. So many thanks to all involved but most especially to our Crafty Chris, for organising the artists and everybody else who helped set it all up and take it all down. A triumph!!
Also this week, we got through all our Pip presentations which were of such a high standard. I can’t wait to see the results from the children’s growth next term. There is always room for improvement but they truly did amazingly well with every part of “what makes a good research project”. For our unit on “Space” this week we focused on First Nations people as being the First Scientists and Astronomers. We looked at their relationship with the constellations and how the shape that the stars form impacts and guides them in their hunting practice, provides direction, tells them about weather patterns and when to harvest. We looked specifically at The Emu in the Sky and then, in their research groups, the children researched other constellations and presented their findings and drawings to the rest of the class groups.
For music, Gemma said they have almost completed looking at all compositions from Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” and have been really engaged in the difference between each one. We listened to another episode from “Grow Your Mind” on Resilience and we also wrote what it means to be Kind and how can we show Kindness at school and home.
For our Maths topic our focus was on Mapping skills and understanding compass directions. And we had a talk on Cyber Safety and how to keep ourselves safe when playing games on the web.
Next week, our last week of term together, it will be our final visit to Lane Cove library on Monday. We will vote on a movie choice to watch on the final day and the children have also voted to go up the street to buy their lunch, if they want. I have given them a list of shops they can go to, so please discuss this with your child and send them with enough money to be able to buy their lunch on Friday.
That’s it for another week.
Love, Sarah
