Sarah’s Class Week 8 Term 3
Hello everyone,
What wild and wet days we had this past week! Thankfully, the rain didn’t ‘dampen’ children’s enthusiasm for Summerhill Day on Wednesday. It did, however, prevent outdoor activities from going ahead which was a bit disappointing but there were some gorgeous activities going on in the spaces for children to choose from.
Other things we have been up to in our class are: we started coding this week using “Scratch”, a free website where you create a code to make games, stories, dances and lots more. Bella set the children up with individual access and then demonstrated how to log in and begin. Then, everyone had a play with the different options to see how things work. This week, they will be given a criteria and list of specific things to create and present.
Bella has been teaching the children some terrific lessons on Position. Using grid co-ordinates the children created maps. They drew their own map of the school and using compass directions, co-ordinates and instructions created a route for a partner to follow and find out which way to go and where they end up.
We also played a game of “Tip” for our PE on Tuesday and our Rock and Water focus was on collaboration and team work. We worked on using our voice to give clear messages. In 5 different tones from a mumble to a scream we said “STOP”!!!! We all agreed that even though screaming the word was the loudest it does not make it powerful. Power and strength was at the 3rd tone where we said it firmly and clearly with conviction.
Next week, it’s our turn to go to Lane Cove library on Monday, so please check that books from home are packed to be returned. We will also start some of our project presentations on Wednesday afternoon and continue the week after that on the Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
That’s us for another week.
Love, Sarah
