Sarah’s Class Week 7 Term 3
Hello everybody,
I hope you’ve all had a nice weekend.
We’ve had another varied and creative week. The children all started learning to play the song “Riptide” by Vance Joy on the ukulele which was exciting to hear. Bella is teaching the group about Algorithms and Coding and started her lessons by giving the children a set of instructions in order to complete a task. For literacy, last week, Bella introduced Nouns and Adjectives and this week we looked at Verbs and Adverbs. We also started a new measurement concept – MASS!! Starting with the informal way of measuring the weight of objects the children made predictions on what objects would be heavier and lighter than the other by hefting. The formal measurements, grams and kilograms were then introduced and in small groups children rotated their way through different stations to complete measurement tasks.
The whole school got skipping on Tuesday for “Jump Rope for Heart”. Each year, Wendy’s group starts the afternoon demonstrating different skipping skills. Children make their way around the stations to receive a stamp and piece of fruit. It was a highly energetic afternoon.
Our Rock and Water focus this week was on asserting ourselves and using “STOP” to let someone know where their personal comfort zone was. We replayed a game, “Sticky Hands” where they need to stand opposite a partner and touching palms of their hands, they need to push and move hands while in their rock to unbalance their partner. In another game, partners clasped hold of each other’s arms, lean backwards and on cue release. This sees who is grounded and remains unmoved, or, loses their balance.
On Free Friday, Bella has been offering some lovely craft and painting lessons to those who choose to participate. Next week, we move on to learning about Position and will start coding through a platform called, “Scratch”.
That’s it for us this week!
Love, Sarah
