Sarah’s Class Week 5 Term 2

Hello everyone!

I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend. Well the temperature has certainly dropped at Currambena, and it’s always a few degrees icier in the playground than outside our school gate. So could you please make sure that your child wears and/or brings an extra layer, especially, if they don’t feel the cold and continue to dress in light weight summer attire.

This week for our ‘SPACE’ unit we moved beyond the planets and looked at Meteors, Comets, Craters and Asteroids. I was away for this lesson but Jess relayed there was a huge amount of engagement, curiosity and questioning. There was an experiment done with marbles and flour to see the effect of craters on the moon and the children were asked to design something which could save the planet if a meteor hit the earth. It was discovered that fragments of meteorites hit the earth already but if there was one which was catastrophic – what could save our planet? Some children designed rockets and space ships which could take us humans to a space station. So instead of a shield of protection we evacuate! We also watched a video and completed a quiz to understand and consolidate, a bit more on the planets.

It was an overcast day up at the canopy on Thursday when we attended Voices for Reconciliation. Preschool, Meg’s class and Wendy’s were fabulous, as usual, in their performances and the number of schools in attendance was the largest seen – yet!

Tomorrow, Monday, 2nd will be our turn to return books to Lane Cove Library.

That’s about it for another week!

Love, Sarah
