Sarah’s Class Week 3 Term 2

Hi Everyone,

Hoping you’ve had a nice weekend and a good week. We’ve been busy making solar systems and looking at the distance of  planets from the sun. We had a fabulous lesson with Jess’ group researching facts on a given planet and then drawing the planets and folding strips of paper into fractions to work out the order and how close the planets are to each other – roughly! With the mention of fractions, our class had a discussion on what is a fraction and then moved on to folding paper into halves, quarters, eighths and thirds. We also created a fraction wall and ‘touched on’ which fractions are equivalent to each other. Also this week for Maths, I introduced some Multiplication strategies and we focused on making groups and recording the number of things in the group, and writing this as a number sentence.

Other things we got up to have included some concentrated and explicit handwriting practice. We turned all the tables around to face the whiteboard, so I could demonstrate, as we wrote rhymes through the alphabet from Aa to Zz. We also did some silent reading, our Soundwaves unit and reading comprehension as well.

The first round of our PE choices began and so did our visit to Lane Cove Library. It’s really nice to be seeing children go through the process of borrowing and re-turning books from the library.

Next week, its our AGM meeting on Thursday night. Hopefully, see as many of you there as possible.

That’s it for the “Cookie Monsters” and me!

Love, Sarah
