Sarah’s Class Week 2 Term 3
How lucky we were to have the last dry day this week to fit our beautiful bush walk in on Tuesday. It was a gorgeous morning as we set off down the path towards Tambourine Bay. We made it all the way to the magic bridge where we explored dam building, skipping rocks and climbing boulders before making the steep ascent back up the hill to school, for a fire drill and morning tea.
Also this week, we started looking at measurement with a focus on Length. We recognised the difference between formal and informal measurements and using tape measures measured body parts and compared the different lengths of limbs and circumferences of heads and torsos. We also looked at the difference between mm, cm and a metre and recorded equivalent lengths of these formal measurements.
Our Rock and Water focus this week was on the salute and the role this plays before embarking on associated games and activities. Like in martial arts, it recognises the other person before ‘play’ and the mutual respect and connection which is made. To roll this out the children all lined up opposite eachother, making eye contact, they bowed while making the salute and saying the word ‘RESPECT’ to eachother.
We had the first music lesson with Kim (new music teacher for Term 3) which was loud and boisterous with the children using boomwhackers to create musical patterns on the floor. With a surprise spot inspection happening this week from NESA (NSW Educational Standards Authority) and their focus on Stage 2 and 3 programming, I have been busy in the office making sure everything is ready. Thankfully, Sarah D and Pepper were able to cover the class while I was working on making sure all boxes will be ticked. I’ll be back to face to face with the children this week hoping everything required is complete. ARGH!
Tomorrow, Monday, 4th is our turn to visit Lane Cove Library, so please check books from home are returned.
That’s it for us this week.
Love, Sarah
