Sarah’s class week 1 Term 3
Welcome back everyone! From all reports it sounds like the majority of you had a nice break. We have an action packed term ahead and to kick this week off we looked at “What brings us JOY”. Take a look at our gorgeous pastel and water colour paintings on display above our lockers. It was a nice way to start our week. We listened to a short episode from Grow Your Mind on the difference between JOY and HAPPINESS and discovered that JOY is felt more deeply and can be longer lasting while HAPPINESS tends to be more short-term and spontaneous. The children chose some beautiful things that brought them JOY during their holidays.
We started and finished our Soundwaves unit focusing on the sounds ‘P PP’ and ‘R RR WR’. The children have already decided on what topic they will research for their Pip this term and we talked about a project being a bit like growing a tree. We start with the root questions which form the foundation of the tree and we then start to build it, bit by bit, until we get to the tips of the branches and the tree sprouts leaves and/or flowers which would be equivalent to Fun Facts. It was an analogy I used which seemed to make sense to them all.
We also started a new social emotional program called Rock and Water. I will continue to use the podcast, Grow Your Mind, to dip in and out of, but the Rock and Water program incorporates a lot more movement and physical role playing to support children in their self-awareness, confidence and ability to stand up for themselves, feeling grounded and strong. This week, in our first lesson, we looked at the differences and similarities between Rock and Water and made connections to situations where we can be strong and also flexible and open.
For our PE this term the children have voted on 4 different options which we will rotate through. We will do soccer, games at school, bush walking and pickleball each for 2 weeks and in the last week of term I will book a session at Flip Out in Gladesville to go trampolining. I am going to lock in Tuesday, 23rd September at 1:00 pm for 1 x hour and will need drivers there and back for this. So, check your diary and let me know if you’re free to drive on this day.
I will be sending you all a Google Doc over the coming weeks with dates and times for our Parent/Teacher interviews. I am still in the throws of writing the children’s records and will not be ready to start until about week 4 or 5. But providing you with dates now will give you plenty of time to arrange it into your schedule.
And that’s about it for us this week! Please check out all the other things happening in the term’s calendar.
Love, Sarah
