Sarah’s Class Term 3 Week 2

Hi Everyone!

We’ve had a very active week this week with lots of steps being made – walking steps that is! Inclusive of our excursion into the city last Tuesday, we’ve been hitting the streets for a brisk walk around the block most mornings to get our brains and bodies geared for each day. I’ve been well impressed with how the children have embraced this activity without grumbles or groans. They stride and/or run with enthusiasm to be the first at every corner. The focus and application to the children’s learning when we return has been much more productive.

The above said excursion went smoothly and we learnt a lot more about the plight of a convict while at Hyde Park Barracks. It was a chilly day but the rains held off for us to walk comfortably through the city from one stop to another. We stopped in the Botanical Gardens for some lunch and then strolled down Macquarie Street to the Barracks for our tour. The Coomaditchie art exhibit at the Museum of Sydney showcased various artworks from the Wollongong region, and we also paused to check out models of The First Fleet ships. Thank you to Jennifer and Celine for volunteering your time to come with us and support the group.

Other things we’ve got through this week have been: our first lesson with Nate in DJing. The children were very excited to take turns at the turntable to play music. We also started writing some poetry and began with the simple Haiku. We had a discussion about the structure of a Haiku and learnt the origin of where it comes from. There were some lovely little poems written by the children which will be published in the newsletter at a later stage.

Next week it’s our turn for Lane Cove library. So please remind your child to bring any books from home.

That’s all for this week!

Love, Sarah
