Sarah’s Class Term 3 Week 1
Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a nice and restful break. We certainly had some gorgeous wintery days during the holidays, with lots of sunshine. A short week this week but Term 3 is always a doozy – a positive one!
As usual we have a lot on, not just in our class but the whole school. Our class has just recently been re-named to…”Sarah”. So it will be “Inside time for Sarah” and “Tidy-up time for Sarah”. All the children thought this was a very funny suggestion for a class name and the majority all voted for this choice with much laughter. Now we have a fish, teacher and class all called “Sarah”. I love it!
Next Tuesday, 30th of July, is our excursion to the Museum of Sydney to see an Indigenous art exhibition, in the morning. After this we will walk to the Botanical Gardens for a play and something to eat and then make our way to Hyde Park Barracks for a Life as a Child Convict tour. The bus will then pick us up from the Barracks and we will head back to school arriving approx 2:30 pm. Thank you to my 2 volunteers coming. Children will need: a wide brimmed HAT, morning tea and lunch, water bottle, raincoat (weather dependent on the day), walking shoes, something warm and a smallish backpack to carry their lunch in.
Other things we are focusing on this term will be poetry, measurement and computer coding. The children have all chosen their topics for Personal Projects, and its another term with a range of diverse and interesting focus areas on the block, including: Artificial Intelligence, gaming consoles, cats, Olivia Rodriguez, Spanish food, New Kids On The Block (the boy band), Volcanoes, Dungeons and Dragons (the game) and (the movie) Labyrinth. Also this week we’ve fitted in a couple of very brisk walks around the block getting our bodies, blood and brain moving. The children’s attention and focus really benefit from doing something vigorous in the morning.
Our class voted on 2 options for PE choices this term which include Pickleball and Capture the Flag. Each class teacher usually organises their own class in Term 3, asking the group what they would like to do. We had a number of suggestions but narrowed it down to these two. Instead of Drama this term we will be learning how to be a DJ. Nate (dad of Otto and Dash) will be teaching all class groups how to program music, as a DJ.
Also, spread out across the term will be a Philosophy night, Science week, Book week, Wear it Purple day, Summerhill day, Jump Rope for Heart and, of course, our big 55th Birthday celebration for the school. Check dates for all of these in the newsletter.
Phew….. are we there yet!!
Love, Sarah (the teacher)
