Sarah’s Class Term 2 Week 9
Dear Parents,
With all the personal project presentations done and dusted this week, I was so pleased with the children’s effort when presenting. The calibre of ability and skill just keeps improving and their choice of topics make the presentations engaging and interesting. I felt so proud of them and duly told them so. Other things we got through this week were a focus on real life mathematical word problems. As a whole group we looked at the problem then had to decide on the best operation to use to find the solution. We got through a bit of text book work: handwriting, spelling and maths. And, completed tasks on simple, compound and complex sentences. This was apropos of how we can jazz up a sentence to become better writers. So we looked at compound/connective words which sewed words and sentences together to extend and elaborate on information. It was rather dry and at times tricky for all of the group to conceptualise this but the exposure and practice at how to make our sentences more interesting will eventually stick.
We had a discussion about what we want to do for our final day of term next Friday and the group voted to go up the street to buy their lunch and watch a movie. We are yet to vote on the choice of movie.
A sad farewell to Sebie and his family who are leaving Currambena at the end of next week. We wish them all the best and look forward to a visit from Sebie once he’s settled. Speaking of ‘visits’ we will have Amber rejoin the group next Friday for the day. It will be lovely to see them.
Thanks to James and Amanda for taking the group while I was away on Friday and (tomorrow) Monday to attend to family matters. It was James’ first teaching day at Currambena and I am sure he was made to feel welcome. That’s us for another week.
Love, Sarah
