Sarah’s Class – Term 2 – Week 7

Hi there everyone, I hope you’ve all had a nice weekend.

It was a short one this week with our Summerhill Day in the middle. Due to this, we moved our personal project time slot to Tuesday this week so as not to lose precious time to work on them, as we creep closer to their completion and due date. We will be sorting out the timetable (next week) for presentations and I will then email you those details of who will present when. They will, however, start the week of Monday, 24th and most likely be on the 24th, 25th & 26th from 1:30 pm each of those afternoons. If we need to carry presentations over into the next week, we will but I am hoping those 3 days will see everyone through. Of course, if you are free on the day your child is due to present, you will be most welcome!

Also, this week, we looked further at 2D shapes and their properties and worked on our skill at using a ruler to draw the more complicated/complex shapes such as Pentagons, Hexagons and Heptagons. We wrote the names of these shapes and recognised corners as Vertices and where the face of a 3D shape is located. As mentioned, we have been watching (G rated) episodes from “Dust Echoes” most afternoons and discussing the message/moral from each Dreaming story. So we created our own mini dreaming stories: folding 1 sheet of paper into a mini book the children came up with an idea for a moral using mostly Native Australian animals to tell the message. “Be Kind”; “Follow your own Path”; “Be yourself”; “Listen to Nature”; “Don’t be Jealous” and “Always believe in yourself” are but just a few of these morals’ children wrote about. This coming week each child will share their stories and illustrations with the the group.

There’s been a lot of handball play in my group which has been lovely to see. However, some of the language being bantered has not been nice to hear. So, we had a discussion about how our words have a ripple effect and when we mirror and/or mimic inappropriate behaviour, because somebody said it first, we are being equally unkind. We talked about changing our language to the positive and being more encouraging and supportive while playing the game.

And that’s us for this week.

Love, Sarah
