Sarah’s Class: Term 2 Week 5

Dear Parents,

Woweeeeeeeee!! What a hoot the Writer’s Festival was on Thursday. I hope you’ve all been given the run down on how LOUD the hundreds of children’s excitement was when Dav Pilkey walked on stage. Talk about a literary ICON for kids. The town hall’s chandeliers rattled with the decibel of screams. Thankfully, we navigated our way into the city, through hundreds of children to find our seats, then outside and back inside for lunch, to the book stall, toilet stops and back on the bus – without too much hassle. It was such a wonderful experience and day for the children. All the authors delivered their talks with a mix of high energy, humour and excitement. They were so engaging and expressed such a love of their craft all the while
promoting the writing, illustrating and reading of BOOKS!!!

Other things this week we have achieved are: we learnt more about fractions and introduced decimals. We recognised a fraction as a decimal and made conversions between the two. We continued to write more on our Dreaming stories and most children have all completed their 1st draft. Due to the weather last Tuesday we didn’t get to go to Pottery Green to play Frisbee. Unfortunately, the ground was too soggy! But we did play a fantastic game of Capture the Flag with Jess and Susan’s class at the end of the day. Due to Thursday’s excursion the group had craft on Wednesday and we did PIPs on Tuesday morning.

Next week, we have our Wingaru excursion down at Tambourine Bay. This will also be a whole day excursion to cover our Indigenous studies and PE. We’ll be leaving at 9:30 AM and will return for 2:00 – 2:30 PM in the afternoon. If the weather is not great for this then we will have the activities and workshop at school.
