Sarah’s Class: Term 2 Week 2
Hello everybody, I hope you had a lovely weekend!
A short week this week but one filled with music, dance, laughter and learning. Wetarted back with our Soundwaves Spelling program on Tuesday and focused on the sound U and O as in words like Umbrella and Monkey. We completed some writing and painting on our holidays which adorn the wall outside our classroom, please, stop and take a look next time you’re passing. We read a couple of picture books on Anzac Day and using the Australian War Memorial website looked into Memorial boxes.
As part of our History topic we looked at the Aboriginal Map of Australia and discovered that there are over 250 Aboriginal Nations across the continent we call Australia. And each Nation has its own cultural traditions and languages. We read more about what ‘Country’ means and learnt for Aboriginal people, Country is not just a place. It is a whole way of seeing the world. Country is all around us, and it is about more than just the ground. There is Land, Sea and Sky Country too.
Also, on Tuesday we walked up to Pottery Green for our first PE session with Susan to learn skills to play Soccer. We also had our lunch and a play there too. Next week we walk to the Gulawa centre to learn Pickleball skills. Our focus in Maths this week was on Multiplication and Division using Arrays and Fractions. The children continue to be skilled and adept at getting through their allocated units in their textbooks. We start most mornings with a movement routine and this week danced!
This coming week, on Thursday, we have a whole day incursion planned along with Jess and Susan’s class with Field of Mars. Someone will be coming to take the children through documentary film making. We will be going off site to potentially the Secret Garden for part of the experience and it should be an interesting day.
This shuffles our timetable around a bit and so have managed to move the children’s Thursday craft session to Wednesday afternoon instead. Music with Kym returns on Monday which will be nice to start back again.
