Sarah’s Class: Term 2 Week 1

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a lovely break. The children all seemed excited to be back at school and it hasn’t taken long for us to feel there was no break at all. We covered much this week and are excited about the topics we will be researching and learning about.

For the most part of this term we will be covering Aboriginal History: delving into culture, community, taking care of the land, navigation and Sydney Cove settlement from the Aboriginal perspective. We have a fabulous excursion booked in week 6 down to Tambourine Bay with the whole school. There will be an Aboriginal elder coming along from an educational company, to deliver a learning opportunity, while all teachers will be supporting the children through additional activities, including playing Indigenous games. It should be really interesting and fun!

Another excursion is booked in week 5 to the Children’s Writers Festival with Jess/Susan’s and Meg’s classes. This will be taking place at the Sydney Town Hall in the city. Susan has organised a fabulous and varied PE program for all classes this term which is focused on learning new skills. We will be covering Pickleball, frisbee, soccer, basketball and tennis. Pickleball will happen down at the new Galuwa centre, soccer and frisbee at Pottery Green and tennis at the courts next to The Diddy. Basketball will stay at school and be run by Michael (ex preschool teacher and now classroom assistant). Given this, please make sure your child comes to school every Tuesday wearing appropriate shoes to play these sports.
