Sarah’s Class: Term 1 Week 7

Hello everybody!

I hope you’ve all had a nice weekend. We’ve been busy little bees this week busily getting through our work for the “What Matters” festival, as well as everything else.. I have been so impressed with how the children are managing their work they need to complete each week, and are embracing all that is thrown at them. We are looking forward to a little break from academics this coming week with our full day out on Tuesday at the Art Gallery and Wednesday’s Summerhill Day!

Motivated by our unit of work, “What Matters” we hope to see some amazing and inspirational artworks at the ART EXPRESS exhibition. And also the design of play equipment in the Underground Playground space called, “The Key’s under the Mat” which we will go to visit as well. It should be fun!

Please, make sure your child comes to school (on Tuesday) wearing closed shoes for this excursion and bring all the usual list of items they will need such as: HAT, water bottle, morning tea, lunch and appropriate clothing to climb in. Some of the structures in the above said playground are built for this..

This week, for our Maths, we looked at Adding and Subtracting 2,3 & 4 digit numbers using an empty number line and with our knowledge of place value showed how to get the answer in the least amount of jumps.We have been doing a lot of writing this week using dictated passages to understand more about sentence structure, handwriting and grammar. The group are also working towards making little books and stories about their life. Swimming on Tuesday was a challenge, as we ventured into the outdoor 50 metre pool to swim lengths and practice safety jumps in the deep end.

We will wrap up our personal projects this week for our presentations to begin the following week. Once we have worked out who is presenting when I will forward you the list of days/times and you will be welcome to come and watch.
