Sarah’s Class: Term 1 Week 4

Dear Parents,

We’ve had a fairly quiet but nice week together this week. We furthered our understanding of persuasive writing and the children came up with their own topic to write and present a convincing argument on. Some topics included: Why Sadness is Important; Currambena is the best school; Why Deforestation should stop!; Every child should have a pet; Traffic Lights are so important. Our measurement topic this week saw us learning about Data and some of us completed a survey on different models of cars that drove past the school gate, recording the data in tally marks and then transferring them into a column graph. Our number work focused on using different strategies when adding and subtracting and we put our understanding of Place Value to the test when trading in column addition & subtraction.

I was impressed with everyone’s confidence to get into the 25 metre pool to complete 4 x laps and practice safety jumps and it’s great that the children all come wearing goggles.

We also honed our handwriting skills, completed a spelling assessment and using a passage on Helen Keller did a reading comprehension activity. We continued work on our projects on a famous person and we’ve almost completed and displayed all the children’s “What Matters to me”.

Next week, for our PE we have a break from swimming and will hone our hand/eye co-ordination with ball skills.
